Heartfelt Petals

I think the card today is gorgeous! Mary Jo is the designer...she stamped and embossed the petals from Heartfelt Creations Open Petals set then cut them out and formed the flower. She used a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder on the background piece and then sprayed Tattered Angels Pearl Glimmer Mist over it. The Happy Birthday is from the new JustRite Tag Making Kit set. She added pearls from Amuse to the center of the flower to finish it all off. Beautiful!

Sparkle Trees

The trees on this card are from Penny Black.
The verse is from JustRite's Nature's Nested Sentiments.
Peacock Chalk Glimmer Mist creates the color
around the sparkling trees and verse.

A Christmas Greeting

I set out to make some cards on Tuesday night....thinking plural! I had ideas for several. Well, I worked on one idea using a big background Christmas stamp and that was all! My original idea didn't work out as I had hoped. Once I stopped trying to make that work, I came up with this card.
The gold embossed background with the bird & poinsettia is created with a Hero Arts stamp. The greeting is from a small Hero Arts clear set. I used 2 Spellbinders Nestabilities dies to cut the ovals. The background color is sprayed with Tattered Angels "Juniper". I also sprayed the white poinsettia from Imaginisce. 3 little brads make the flower center.

Enjoy!

Is it Fall already?

It sure feels like Fall here in southwestern Minnesota even though it's still truly summer. The day time temps have hardly made 70 this week. I love the crispness in the air but not the coolness.
I have a few final changes to make on that last workshop card. Ugh! I think I have a mental block. I can't seem to get the combination of "beauty, technique & ease to make" to come together.

Since a photo is worth a 1000 words .............here's a card from Kathy for you to enjoy!
She used a Spellbinders die to cut the maple leaf. The negative created when she cut the leaf out of cardstock was used as a stencil to create the subtle leaf patterns in the background with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I think 2 of the leaves were colored with Glimmer Mist also. One of the leaves is cut from craft foil which she colored with Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks. I love the fall colors. Thanks, Kathy!
I hope many of you are signed up for the workshop......
Get your supples together & be ready for a fun creative day! Only 9 days & a wake up to go......
Keep stamping,
Judy

Tip for using color sprays

Today, I'm going to share my technique for using any color spray mists. I often use Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels for sparkle & color. I used Autumn Leaves on the sympathy card that I posted earlier this week. Another color spray made by Ranger is a textile spray in the Adirondack color line called Color Wash. These sprays are permanent on fabric. They're also wonderful to use on paper. You can also make your own custom color sprays using a mister bottle (I suggest the Mini Mister by Ranger), water, and dye ink from a re-inker (Ranger Distress or Adirondack refill inks work great). If you want metallic or pearlescent sparkle, just add a small amount of Perfect Pearls by Ranger. Perfect Pearls have a binder in them so they will stick to the paper when it's dry.

Now, for my tip to keep the spray contained. I use a dishpan that I found at a dollar store. I lay a sheet of printer paper or a paper towel in the bottom, place whatever I intend to mist on the paper & spray away. The dishpan keeps the spray from going all over as long as you keep the spray bottle near the rim of the pan. If I'm concerned about overspray, I lay down some newspaper & place the dishpan in the center. The paper in the bottom of the pan dries out between uses and becomes a great medley of color from all the different sprays that I use. I save the prettier scraps to use as background papers on some future project. If I'm spraying several things so that the paper gets wet, I either dry it with my heat gun or change the paper. Otherwise, the spray builds up and will soak the back of the item you're trying to spray. That's usually not a good effect!
I sprayed the flowers on the right side with Autumn Leaves Glimmer Mist. You can see the difference in the colors of the aqua flower. The spray dulled the color so it coordinated so much better with the Kimberly Poloson paper by Fiskars on the sympathy card. It's a bit harder to see the difference in the black flowers. The sprayed flower has a brown tone with a hint of sparkle.

Here's a closer look at the flowers. The misted flowers are on the left side in this photo.
Until next time, mist away!

A collage birthday card

Internet issues kept me from getting this posted last night. How frustrating! I spent 30-40 minutes talking to a tech person. He couldn't resolve the problem. I was able to get online for a short while after talking to him but I couldn't load a photo or the post that I wrote. They seem to have gotten it fixed today. Yeah!

Here's a special collage birthday card that I made Sunday night. I used several Tim Holtz stamps, Distress inks, Tattered Angels glimmer sprays & a birthday greeting & net background by B Line. I first stamped the net background on a piece of manilla file folder. Something about the surface of a file folder works well for blending the inks. I stamped the frame in the center & then added the verse. From there, I stamped various images in several colors of Distress inks around the edges. I also added color with Cut n Dry foam. I sprayed a cream card with Terra Cotta & Autumn Leaves Glimmer sprays as well as Olive Vine. I even colored the lace (white originally) with the Glimmer sprays & a touch of ink after I glued it on the card front. I rubbed some Walnut stain on the tips of the flowers & sprayed them, too. I assembled the card using a strip of green & brown papers as mats, tied a ribbon & attached the flower over it & the lace.
A collage card like this can be made with many different stamps. The exact same stamps aren't neccessary to get a great looking card. Experiment with some different colors & stamps. You never know what beauty may emerge.

A card for you to enjoy

In my efforts to make some cards this weekend, I experimented with some techniques & tried different colors. A few things didn't turn out at all as planned. One is this card...
I started with a piece of paintables paper from Prima. I colored it with Adirondack markers. Then I misted it with Tattered Angels Sunflower spray. I didn't like that so I sprayed it with Candy Apple. I also sprayed the flowers with Candy Apple. The big brad was stamped with Versamark using the Penny Black "pointelle" stamp & then embossed with gold. I like the texture interest. "enjoy" was stamped with Adirondack Denim using a clear stamp from the Penny Black Salutations set. I do like how it turned out. Enjoy!
